Agility, Hoopers & Scent Detection

Agility

At Beechgrove, our focus is on having fun for both dogs and their humans during our Agility Sessions, and making sure the sport is taught properly right from the start to give you a great head-start on your agility journey. Agility is the most popular dog sport in the world for a reason – it’s brilliant! Through agility we can help with everyday training for focus, recall and impulse control, as well as just enjoying the sport and creating a brilliant bond between dog and owner.

 
Whether you aim to compete in the future or just want to have an activity you and your dog both love we can help you progress your skills. Our classes and sessions are held with a qualified, insured and chartered instructor, with more than a decade’s experience working with dogs and coaching agility skills, giving your dog a great start in a new sport. We use completely reward-based, positive and kind training methods throughout all of our courses.
 
Our weekly League course is designed and set up by a certified Kennel Club and A4A Judge, to ensure all courses are safe & appropriate for each level running them. We use full course competition-spec NAYLOR equipment to ensure dogs safety and comfort on the equipment, we also use 80mm tunnels for extra comfort for larger breeds-  We want to make sure every dog has the opportunity to join in, so we offer a range of options to suit all ages, levels and temperaments. 
 
We focus on how you and your dog communicate with each other, encouraging clear guidance and understanding of each other through your training – adding games and challenges that keep your skills developing and testing out your abilities as you progress. For less-mobile handlers we also include distance handling skills in our training, right from foundation levels. There’s a method to suit all different abilities.
 
Our course surfaces are all natural grass – perfect for a softer landing, grip, and reduced risk of paw-burn from running on coarse surfaces. Our training areas are fully fenced with 8ft perimeter fencing, so perfect for those who aren’t quite confident in off-lead work yet in an unfenced area. We offer a 6 week Foundation course for those just starting, helping to introduce and establish a working bond with our dogs and their handlers, as well as setting our teams up with the skills to begin their agility journey.
 
We have a series of courses ranging from foundations, sequencing and course-running skills available. With a maximum of 6 dogs per class and 2 instructors you’ll be getting all the help and attention needed as we progress, and for those who may struggle to work in a class environment we also offer 1-1 training.

Hoopers

Hoopers is a game similar to agility in which we guide our dogs around a course of a series of obstacles. Differing from agility in it’s physical demand, hoopers uses much simpler equipment for our dogs to complete without strenuous activity including running through hoops, around barrels, gates, through tunnels, etc. This makes Hoopers the ideal game for puppies just learning new sports skills, for older dogs who still love stimulation and fun but don’t need to be jumping on older joints, and for all dogs in between!

In Hoopers we focus on our dog developing independent skills and being able to handle them from a distance – making this a perfect game for people who prefer not to run, but still want their dog to get a good workout! It’s a simple game that quickly builds into really impressive skills you and your dog will love!

Dogs of all ages can join in – from just 15 weeks. For a group class the only requirement is good recall around other dogs. 1-1 Sessions also available for those who prefer to work solo. All Classes taught by insured, chartered and Certified Canine Hoopers UK Instructor, and using only positive reward-based methods.

Scent Detection

Our Bronze Sniffer classes are the beginning step in your Scent Work journey, teaching all the foundations and introducing this new challenge to your dog in a fun and positive way.

Suitable for ALL ages, sizes and abilities – this is a wonderfully inclusive activity that utilises the dog’s most natural superpower. 

This is a low-impact, relaxing and confidence building activity for our dogs – one that still uses up brain power and leaves your dog feeling enriched and content after class!

Silver Scent Detection takes the skills from Bronze to the max, introducing 2 new scent IDs, new indications and  more active searching! Perfect for dogs who enjoyed Bronze Level & want to keep learning  and playing.
